The Peace Abbey

Inspired by mother Theresa, Lewis Randa founded a very small school for disabled children and subsequently became devoted to Peace and Social Justice. Today, the Peace Abbey has grown into an international phenomenon. People come to visit the Abbey from everywhere in the world.

While their facilities have grown immensely and now include function rooms, a guest house, a conference center, a multi-faith Chapel, a coffeehouse, a Greenhouse Café and an extensive library dedicated to anti war authors and devotes of vegetarianism, their prime mission has remained intact. The goal of the Abbey is to promote living harmoniously with one another, and to take faith into action in areas of Social Justice.

Over the years many dignitaries have received the Courage of Conscience Award. A sampling includes: Peter, Paul, and Mary, Mother Theresa herself, Daniel Berrigan, Rosa Parks, Arlo Guthrie, Maya Angelou, Muhammad Ali and Mikhail Gorbachov.

This Peace Abbey is a wonderful place for anyone of any faith to visit . There are endless rooms in which to meditate, books to peruse, and sacred places in which to relax. There is no admission charge. Most donations come from high profile individuals who support the Abbey’s work continuously. PeaceAbbey.org
